While OFF ROAD seems rather self evident for a company making off road cars, OFF GRID is not. OFF GRID is a concept, a philosophy or maybe even a movement considered and done by people who decide to change their lives and turn the page on the empty promise of urbanity. OFF GRID relates to “back to nature” in many ways but also to “doom’s day prepping” and other trends, mainstream media reports with a wink.
Let’s look at it closer and without biases. Is there anything wrong with being prepared for emergencies? Does having candles for the case of a power outage make you a lunatic? Is it ridiculous to have a spare canister of fuel in your garage?
Maybe there is a good reason for having a fridge with a freezer because it allows us to not having to go shopping for food every day. The same principle applies to having spare batteries at home, tools, solar panels, bottled drinks and so much more comforts, that make our lives easier – especially in times of need. Ridiculing preparedness doesn’t make sense and should make us suspicious of those who argue that way: they clearly don’t have our best interests at heart.
The whole point of driving an off road car is to be able to move when and where mobility is so tough that urban vehicles are useless, whether for fun or in an emergency. Just like the whole point of moving to the countryside is escaping the city and be closer to nature, and that requires a whole new level of preparedness, organizing and adopting. There’s another term for it, too: self reliance, and it’s a good thing.
Once you can see that, you can also see how a longer lifespan of products is more environmentally friendly, how that was the original idea and meaning of “sustainability” and how it reduces the needless waste of resources and thus pollution.
Sustainability is much related to the concept of efficiency, which is “in flux” meaning it changes all the time, with new ideas, new materials and new technologies. The whole point of science, research and development and civilizational progress is to become ever more efficient, to improve, to waste less and get more out of what we have.
That’s why Calypex is for those who either go OFF ROAD or OFF GRID, or both.
Thank you, have fun and check back for more!
